Who we are

The Community Center Development Committee is a registered nonprofit, community-driven, volunteer organization.

Since 2001, two separate studies have been conducted by outside consultants outlining plans for a new Community Center.  These planning efforts solicited the involvement of hundreds of Camas/Washougal residents and stakeholders, but for a variety of reasons were not successful in moving the project forward.

The Community Center Development Committee was appointed and assembled in December of 2007 to continue to explore the viability of the Camas-based community center site with the help of interested local community members and stakeholders and to explore how funds could be raised to build the center.

In 2011, the Committee (CCDC) was officially recognized by the Camas City Council as a city committee for the purpose of conducting a new facility analysis of the proposed Community Recreation Center.  Our work includes a review of the planning, design, siting and funding options for the facility.  Upon completion of our analysis, CCDC will provide recommendations to the City Council for implementation, education and promotion of the proposed facility.

Why do we need a new Community Center?

Over the last twenty years, our local community has grown by leaps and bounds, and our current Community Center is too small to meet the needs of our children, teens, seniors and all community members who benefit from its many programs. The current Community Center will soon be celebrating its one hundredth year. The Center, along with the local Crown Park pool, is rapidly deteriorating creating costly maintenance and repairs.

The current work plan of the CCDC includes:
